Als eine der ältesten Rebsorten des Landes und historisch älteste Sorte Thrakiens besticht der trockene Mauroudi aus Thrakien durch seine purpurrote Farbe, Aromen von roten Früchten und seinen intensiven Tannincharakter. Der Name des Weins ist etymologisch mit der tiefschwarzen Farbe der Trauben verbunden, aus denen er gekeltert wird.
Ein Wein mit starker Persönlichkeit, wie das Wildschwein (Sus scrofa), das das Etikett ziert. Dieses Wildschwein ist eine geschützte Art im weiteren Gebiet der Lagune von Vistonida und verbindet so den heutigen Weinberg dieser Rebsorte mit dem einstigen Wildschweinwald.
